Simple Truth Gluten-Free Frozen Waffles: Product Review
One of the most awesome discoveries I made at the Enjoy Life Gluten-Free Food Festival was just how many gluten-free foods the grocery store, Kroger carries. Not only did they carry most of the brands that had booths at the festival, but they also carry a remarkable amount of products in their own brand. From waffles to animal crackers and everything in between, Kroger should definitely be your new go-to gluten-free grocery store. Today’s review is on their own brand, Simple Truth, waffles, which pass my gluten-free checklist with flying colors.
Test 1: Texture of the Gluten-Free Waffles
These waffles have an amazing texture; you’d never guess they were gluten-free. I used to always eat Van’s waffles, but Simple Truth (Kroger’s brand) has a much better texture. If you found out about your celiac/gluten issue late in life and miss the taste of real waffles, head to Kroger ASAP. These are fluffy, moist enough (they actually don’t resemble cardboard), and delicious. They hold their form, too; they won’t crumble when you stick your fork into them.
Test 2: Taste
I actually was reminded of Eggo waffles when I ate these. Before I found out about my celiac disease, I was all about Eggo waffles in the morning. Some gluten-free frozen waffles would help satiate the craving, but none came anywhere close to actually resembling my beloved breakfast food. Kroger’s Simple Truth waffles are, in my opinion, as close as you can get to that delicious Eggo flavor without the gluten. *I have since tried Eggo’s gluten-free frozen waffles and, I have to say, the Kroger’s Simple Truth gluten-free frozen waffles has them beat in both taste and texture.
Test 3: Price
Price is a big one for me with gluten-free foods. It’s ridiculous how expensive some of the gluten-free alternatives are and you never get enough in the packages; it feels like such a rip off. Not these. Simple Truth gluten-free waffles are under $3 at Kroger and you get eight of them. That’s right: EIGHT. They also come in blueberry which are incredible beyond measure.
After a five-year long journey, I’ve finally found the perfect gluten-free frozen waffles and it’s all thanks to the Enjoy Life Gluten-Free Food Festival. If this festival is coming near your area and you have an opportunity to go, don’t miss it. The samples you get along with all the free stuff you get to take home more than pays for the cost of your one-day or two-day ticket. It’s the experience of a lifetime for anyone with a gluten dietary restriction.
